Room Interior with Artist and Mirror

Here is the second state of my current self portrait. I’ve worked up the forms and textures a bit from the previous state to a point where the image is fairly resolved though some imagery could use more developing.

I should note that I’m working from direct observation – my usual practice, not photographs.

The multiple viewpoints introduced by the mirror and the reflection of the canvas make for a fun challenge. At one point I raised my brush to the canvas only to stop myself, thinking I was painting on the wrong surface . . . and no I don’t pour tea and paint in tandem, so I think of it as a time lapse or just a fun bit of artifice. However I do paint with eyes primarily on the subject, not the canvas, so it’s really only my left hand which is posed.
